Desktop Controls

  • Move

Use WASD or the arrow keys to walk around the room and scout safe props.

  • Look around

Click the game canvas to capture the mouse, then move the mouse to turn and aim your sample cone.

  • Sample a color

Face a prop and press E. Your chameleon blends toward that prop's color on purpose.

  • Crouch

Hold Ctrl to crouch when you need a lower profile while waiting for the hunter to pass.

Mobile Controls

On phones and tablets, drag the virtual joystick to walk and turn. Tap the SAMPLE button while facing a prop to take its color. Moving lowers camouflage, so sample, freeze, watch the hunter, then move only when the path is clear.

How Camouflage Works

Matching color is only half the trick. Face a prop, sample its color with E (desktop) or SAMPLE (mobile), then stay still so your camouflage meter climbs. With a high enough score, the hunter can walk past without spotting you even if you are inside their vision cone.

Moving drops the camouflage score and makes you easier to detect. A soft nearby assist can still tint you toward close props, but intentional sampling is the main verb — pick the right corner on purpose before the chase gets hard.

Prepare and Hunt Phases

Prepare (~18 seconds)

The match opens with a short prepare phase. Learn the room, sample strong prop colors, and get into cover while the hunter patrols without full chase pressure.

Hunt (~90 seconds)

When the hunt starts, the hunter can chase. Survive the full timer without being touched to win. Getting caught ends the run immediately — hit Play Again and try a better route.

Survival Tips

  • Sample early in Prepare

Use the prepare window to lock a strong prop color before the hunter becomes dangerous.

  • Hide near matching colors

Stand beside the prop you sampled so your body color and background agree when the hunter looks your way.

  • Break line of sight with walls

Corners, furniture, and walls still matter. Camouflage helps, but open space is risky when the meter is low.

  • Do not spam movement

Every dash drops camouflage. Short, planned moves beat constant wandering.

  • Watch patrol routes

Learn where the hunter turns. Move after they pass, not while they are facing your cover.

  • Replay after close calls

Each run teaches safer corners and better sample timing. Restart fast and improve the route.

FAQ

How do you win Meccha Chameleon Online?

Survive for ninety seconds without being touched by the hunter. When the timer hits zero, you win. Getting caught ends the run immediately.

What does the E key / SAMPLE button do?

It samples the color of the prop you are facing so your chameleon blends toward that color on purpose. After sampling, stay still to raise the camouflage meter.

Why does standing still matter?

Stillness raises camouflage. Matching color alone is not enough — freeze so the hunter can pass without detecting you.

Can I play on mobile?

Yes. Use the virtual joystick and SAMPLE button in a modern mobile browser, or open the Mobile page for phone-first tips.
